“Offerings” in Doorbells at Dusk

My story “Offerings” in the Halloween anthology Doorbells at Dusk is the first of several I’ll have coming out this fall.

Fall is always an exciting season for me with the dramatic color and lighting changes in the garden, the hope of cool air and the best holiday of the year coming up–Halloween! This year fall is doubly exciting because I have stories getting published in two anthologies and at least one journal.

Doorbells at Dusk features great stories with varying levels of weirdness, gravity, horror and humor. I might be the newest author in the collection. I’m so thankful that the publisher decided to take a chance on my story “Offerings.”

But Thanksgiving is the wrong holiday. You’re here for Halloween.

Meet Blaine, who’s feeling like there’s something a bit off about the neighborhood this Halloween. She’s new to the high-end suburb, seeking a lifestyle and community that’s better than the one where she grew up. She’s an achiever. Sure she doesn’t have much of a personal life, but she’ll make time for that eventually. When Blaine tries to be a good neighbor to Amelia, things get uncomfortable. Then they get weird. The children with Amelia seem delinquent to the point of being feral. And what’s Amelia hiding in that double stroller?
