Check out my new story, “Homicidal Maps” in Issue 44 of Three-Lobed Burning Eye. One kind reader on Bluesky called it “a master class in how to write (about a monster, about a place) that relates to nothing you know.”
In other news, you can pre-order Bodypunk from Filthy Loot, an anthology that includes my story “And At Night, The Sirens.”
Additionally, if you’re a subscriber at Seize The Press, you can get a first look at what may be my favorite story I’ve written, “The Power Company Detective.”
Looking back, I have some thoughts about INVAGINIES.
The book came out in 2024 and I’ve gotten such wonderful responses from all who’ve read it, even those who found it a bit overwhelming, too much weird per page, too relentless in its tonal intensity. All of the stories in it were composed during the height of the covid pandemic, including the original novelette which I conceived of as, “Hey, what if I had visions like William Blake? What then?”
Most have an experimental game or challenge within their composition that I set for myself, and were written in a state of anguish over the isolation, loss, and mass deaths that occurred, along with a growing sense of the apocalyptic failure of broken systems that imprison us even as they break down further. I guess it’s primarily a book about trauma, and textually inflicts trauma upon the reader. That sounds like a terrible thing to do, but it’s only fiction, after all–you can put the book down–and what it’s really offering is transformation. Not every reader wants that, but those of you who do have been so generous with your kind words and reviews that I’m forever grateful to you for making the leap of empathy and taking these journeys through darkness.
