Every Lucky Penny is Another Drop of Blood

It’s a privilege to be part of the anthology series “In Darkness Delight” from Corpus Press. I’m thankful to Andrew Lennon for inviting me, and pleased to see my story “Every Lucky Penny is Another Drop of Blood” in the first volume, “Masters of Midnight.”

My contributor’s copy arrived yesterday. I’m reading all the great stories, appreciating the wide variety of style and tone. I love how Corpus Press makes room for quiet horror next to splatter. Be prepared for a roller-coaster ride of the unexpected when you pick up this book. You never know if things are going to get quiet or loud when you turn the page.

My story is not one of the quiet ones.

I gave Detroit an extreme makeover and populated it with characters who are much more interesting than me. It’s questionable whether or not they are all human, but that’s life in the big city, right? I wrote a protagonist who was my opposite: wild, extroverted, and too carefree to play it safe. One of those delightful, sassy women who’s a magnet for trouble.

She finds an unusual coin while scraping together spare change. Her decision to keep it as a good luck charm works like magic. Life gets better, money pours in, and the party never ends. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?

Oh hey, this is horror.

You know the party is going to end.
