“This is bleak, serious horror”

Some authors avoid reading their reviews, or react (and worse, overreact) to them. I find reviews instructive. They reveal how the weird worlds inside my head have played out in someone else’s head. I note variations in response when assessing reviews. At times, reactions vary so widely, it’s as if people read several different stories.

Since writing “Every Lucky Penny Is Another Drop Of Blood,” I’ve thought a few times that I held back too much, didn’t get dark enough, and had too much fun instead of going for the throat. Or groin.

Maybe not.

Here’s a review from Haunted by Deadlines of the Corpus Press anthology “In Darkness Delight: Masters of Midnight.” I’m thrilled to be named a favorite author (who, me?) and love the quote: “Your heart will ache and your jaw will drop just from the pure desolation and ruthlessness of these gems.”
